Finding Type!

Here are 6 typefaces I found around me ^^

1. Oldstyle, slab serif, and maybe decorative?
2. This was a poster of this movie I found in the East Broadway train station.
3. I believe this typeface was appropriate for its purpose because I believe this movie is a horror and the text helped the poster create a creepy feel.

1. Modern
2. I found this book in the school's library.
3. Cokie Roberts... I think it's the author's name. I do not think it's a bad typeface to use... but it's a little hard to read at a first glance.

1. Slab Serif
2. I forgot which room it was but I found this student's work on the 11th floor (I think).
3. I believe this font is Times New Roman... So yes? Since this is a school project (a different class other than art, where you usually use Times New Roman), most teachers require this font so this student did an excellent job of following the rules. \(^  ^)/

1. San Serif
2. The sign that labels the train station at Delancey Street Station
3. I do believe this choice of typeface is appropriate because san serif is really easy to read, especially when you look out the train's window as it arrives at the station.

1. Script
2. I found this poster in the GD/ Fishbowl/ 1113 room
3. I do not exactly know what the purpose of this poster is... but it looks very nice and fancy. Maybe it's about people/ reality first before technology.

1. Decorative, script
2. I found this at MHS's 11th floor senior birthday wall/ cabinet thingy...
3. I think this fun sort of typeface serves its purpose well because birthdays are supposed to be fun!

Environmental Club/ Green Team Q&A (Summary)

Questions:

1. What are 5 words and 5 symbols that represent the club?
2. What is the goal of this club?
3. What colors do you think of when you hear the word "environmental"?
4. What is the origin of your club?
5. Any hardships?
6. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the club?

Answers/ Summary (Interviewed Celine):

The Environmental Club just started as a student-led club in Millennium High School. The goal of the club is to bring awareness of the concept of "Go Green". In other words, the club brings awareness about green living, eco-friendly methods, and environmental issues around the school.

One hardship that the club has faced this year was the temporary closing of the farm space in Battery Park. The farm space at Battery Park was a project produced by this club a few years back. Since the farm is closed for now, the Green Team needs to organize other activities in replacement. Some of which includes bringing awareness about closing the lights of a classroom after the room is done being occupied.

Some weaknesses of this club is that sometimes there are financial issues which restrain the kinds of activities we could do (such as trips or hand-made displays). Also, there is not always enough time to finish projects which leads people to volunteer after school. The strengths include the club's good sense of community and great ideas shared during discussions.

Celine believes:
- 5 words to describe the club are: care, community, earth, learning, and plants
- 5 symbols to describe the club are: plants, gardening tools, earth, leaf, and recycling sign
- Colors: Green, blue, silver, and brown

LOGOS LOGOS LOGOS

Here's a logo I love:

The logo above is well designed because the logo fits well with what the company sells: cute and creative graphic tees (I love cruising their site :3). I feel that the use of a combination mark really helps with the concept of their shirts. I don't really know why there's a turtle, but it's also fun to say teeturtle. The logo isn't on every since shirt, but I believe the word mark, teeturtle, is on the tag on the shirt. There is also one shirt that they have which includes this logo (above), and if I owned that shirt, I would not mine wearing it around at all because the turtle is just so cute :D!

 Here's a I'm unfamiliar with:

What to Weather by Lissa S

This logo is from Lissa S. and I just thought that the logo was very simple but also very creative. The combination mark has a witty pun that just makes you go "aww". The logo also makes you feel warm no matter what weather is outside because of the tight wrap around the cloud and sun. I also like how they do not use many colors because it's easy to the eye. I feel like if there is a lot of   of colors, too much would be going on and there wouldn't be much of a focus. I think it's better for a logo to get right to the point (by sight) because then with just a glance of the logo, you know right away what the logo is. I think that's very important because that spreads the company promotion very quickly. It's good for the business!

Portrait Transformation Project!

Process

Before :)
After XD
Concept: Transformation
Success? No success? Just different?

I wanted to do a fun space themed type of picture. Something... cute... Honestly, there's not much meaning to the transformation. I just wanted to have a bunch of little aliens, in this case CJ7, everywhere. I guess the transformation was a success but I felt like the picture was too simple... Maybe I should've had other things in the space area or something. Otherwise, my favorite part of this final in the CJ7 in the bottom left corner :).

Shape to Symbol (GIF)

Don't be sad, be happy!
Reflection

While using Photoshop, what was the most frustrating aspect of the program and/ or project?

The most frustrating aspect of this project was creating the transitional frames. In my mind, I wanted the mouth, eyes, and cracks to move while leaving the rest of the GIF still. I gave up on the eyes, but I was able to add transitions for the mouth and cracks with tweening.

After completing the project, which tools do you feel most confident in using?

After this project, I felt the most confident in using the paint, eraser, and eye dropper tools because I felt I had the most control when using these tools. Since the mouth was kind of small, I learned that I could paint each and every pixel if I zoomed in. I thought that skill was very useful especially since I'm very detail picky.

Which tool do you wish you were better at using? Explain why?

I wish I was better at using the selection tool. Since there are so many options, it gets a little confusing since I have poor memory. There are options where you could use different shapes to select, ones where you could add or subtract selections, and one where you could just click the layer and it would select it.

What would you like to create next in Photoshop?

Similar to this project, I think we should use edited, original photos where we make a montage like GIF. I feel like it doesn't have to make sense, but there should be a theme. In Photoshop we could learn how to remove the backgrounds and edit in new ones or something like that. For example, I could have multiple pictures of places and edit in characters that would move along the photos.

Another thing that we could do is make surreal images from original photos that we take. We could transform a sunny day at the beach into a dark, stormy fighting ground for gods or dragons... I don't know. Be creative!

Inspirations :O

Post something that inspires you. It can be something that you are interested in or something you saw that blew you away. I can be that meal you ate when you traveled to another country or a movie/ book that changed your way of thinking. Please post a visual image and/ or video that goes along with your inspiration. If you don't have the actual photo or video of what you're talking about, try to find something that is related to your topic. Make sure you explain what it is and why it inspires you.

So pretty :O
(Source: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/62/Stars-high-mountain-sky_-_West_Virginia_-_ForestWander.jpg)

The sky is something that inspires me. I wouldn't say it has to be stars, but staring up into the sky is very calming and it allows me to think. There was this one time where I went camping in a tent... I had to go the the bathroom in the middle of the freezing night and no one in my tent would go with me. So I went alone... but the moment I stepped outside of my tent, I was so in awe with the night sky. I almost forgot I had to pee :/ but I didn't mind because of how pretty the stars were. The night was so quiet and different from that of the city, but it was a very nice change of pace.
So many colors ^^

The sky during the day is also very inspiring to me. I've only laid down a couple of times in the grass and looked up at the sky. I wish I had time to do it more because it's such a good feeling when you can relax outdoors in the warmth of the sun. The sky is just so unique. I love to look at its colors and clouds.

Letter Project Reflection

1. Describe your process when creating your letter project. How was the process helpful or not so helpful to you?
I found writing down ideas and sketching thumbnail pictures very helpful because I was able to get the ideas down on paper first before fully starting on the project. Brainstorming allowed me to expand off of smaller ideas I initially had. Also, the peer commenting from the table and the class allowed me to see what other people thought was cool. And lastly, the two drafts helped with finalizing my ideas for the final draft.
One of two drafts: without and with color
2. How did you arrive with your concept/ idea for you letter? How did you represent this concept visually in your design? (Give 2 examples)
I kind of already knew that I wanted a mash up of letters for my final design. As I sketched possible variations of the mash ups, I found that adding color made it fun and childlike. So my final concept is sort of the elementary style kind of art (if that makes any sense what-so-ever). I wanted to represent this concept by using bright colors and sketchy shading on the main Z's. The little z's were to create a messy sort of look.

3. What was the most challenging aspect of this project for you? Why?
I think the most challenging part of this project was the drawing of the little z's. I had to make sure each z was angles in different directions, mashed together well, and not having the same colors next to each other in each individual z. it was also because I had o draw so many of them... The little z's took me two class periods to finish drawing and a third period to finish the color. I also had to make sure that I did not mess up, since I was using pen... I did not want to use pencil because then I would have to redraw everything over in pen.

Sneak Peek: Process
The start of coloring ><
Sure is tedious :/
Almost there! ^^
4. Are you satisfied with you project? Explain your answer.
HOME RUN! XD
Honestly, I am not completely satisfied with my project. After adding all the color in, I noticed that there was a lot a pink on the top and bottom of the Z. There wasn't much pink in the middle diagonal of the Z but I guess it looks okay because the pink in the Z is symmetrically even. Other than that, the Z is basically what I pictured in my head and what I drew in my drafts.

5.  If you can change anything about your design, what would you change or do differently?
If I could change anything, I think I would want to test out different font types of the letter z and mash that up together... For example, I'll have Zs from New Times Roman, Ariel, and Cursive types... I would also like to have different sizes/ thickness of Zs (so like bold and italics). I think I would do this on the computer so it comes out very neatly :)
